Meldrum Bay 2019

45.9271° N, 83.1140° W

We arrived at 2:10 p.m. after a 4.5 hour run from Gore Bay. The wind was blowing from the NE so on our stern most of the way. Quite pleasing as we travelled half a knot faster than our usual speed at 1600 rpms.

This was an overnight stop only which was good as we arrived to discover that the marina was open but everything else was closed. Restaurant, grocery store and LCBO.

During the summer months, the docks are busy, lined with pleasure craft from around the Great Lakes. The marina is the first Canadian Customs port for boats traveling east from Lake Superior and Michigan.  These waters possibly hold the best Chinook salmon fishing in all of Canada, and fishermen travel hundreds and thousands of miles to try their luck in these waters. I wet a line but alas – no luck.

Although it is possible to anchor in the bay depending on the wind direction, S/V GeRu took a slip. We plan to head out together in the morning.

We are working on balancing the heat in the boat when plugged to shore power. Running the heater in the salon when we go to bed seems to be the best option. The heater in the master berth runs too hot to be comfortable while sleeping so it gets shut off. The dogs wear sweaters; much to their displeasure.

Woke to frost on the deck for the first time.
