Baie Fine

Baie Fine, pronounced “Bay Fin”, is a fjord like bay extending from the waters of Georgian Bay 12 kilometres into the La Cloche Mountains. The La Cloche Mountains, also called the La Cloche Range, are along the northern shore of Lake Huron near Manitoulin Island. The mountains are located in the Canadian Shield, and are composed primarily of white quartzite.

Maybe it is the year but this famous looper destination left us cold. Our original plan was arrive early, anchor and explore the neighbourhood which includes Lake Topaz; a perched lake with topaz-coloured water and white diving rocks.

The “Pool” at the end of Baie Fine only a few boats when we first arrived. We motored around checking out spots to anchor. It is polite to med-moor in the “pool”. Drop your anchor and use a stern line to tie to a tree or rock on shore. In ideal spots the water depth near shore allows you to back close enough to step onto the land from your swim platform.

The trip in was beautiful and so is the location but we just didn’t feel like staying overnight.

We couldn’t find a place we liked so dropped anchor for lunch, a swim and a nap. Left at 2:30 and arrived in Killarney around 5:30.
