Charlevoix to Leland

We are getting better at organizing ourselves to leave harbour in the morning. For example, this morning we were up at 7, feed and walked the dogs, made coffee, prep the boat for departure, then had to sit for half an hour waiting for the 8 o’clock bridge lift.  The bridge into Round Lake where the Charlevoix Municipal Marina are lifts on the half hour from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Between those hours it lifts on demand.

Once clear of the breakwater a hard turn to port and follow the shoreline for a mile or two. Then across Little Traverse Bay and down the shoreline of the Leelanau Peninsula to Leland. This is a four hour cruise that leaves a boat exposed to most winds so picking good weather day is important. Although, we were buzzed by the Coast Guard helicopter which was both comforting and not.

We know we will be Leland for at least two nights as there is a storm due tomorrow, but we feel we many have overstayed in Charlevoix as all the dock hands know our boat name.

  1. Making progress and learning is always a good thing when boating. We are off to Buckhorn on Friday and hope to get a spot. Will think of our time together there.
