We are not the only boaters expecting to spend a day or two here waiting out a storm. This is the only harbour between Charlevoix and Frankfort. An impossible distance at our speed. Difficult even for some of the faster boats. We thought the harbour would be a little bouncy as it has little in the way of a wind break and is fairly open to the southwest. It was. The seasonal slip holder leaving to anchor out at the Manitou Islands was our first hint of what was to come.
Our first afternoon and evening was very pleasant. We walked around town, checked out the beach, picked up a few groceries and had dinner at the Cove – John had pickerel (or walleye) and I had perch. Rain and wind started overnight and the only boat that left the next morning was a 65’ Hatteras. The rest stayed put. The dogs and I spent much of the day in the boaters lounge as it was impossible to read, write or do much of anything on the boat. Once the rain finished there was a lot of visiting on the docks.

When you boat there is never a dull moment. That’s also why you can’t be in any hurry. Stay in port when weather is bad.

I check weather forecasts and buoy reports in the middle of the night, instead of playing solitaire when we are boating.
