Sandy Beaches and Navy Jets

We moved to our second anchorage on the GICW (Gulf Intra Coastal Waterway). Now we are seeing the things you sort of imagine you might find on the gulf coast.

Free Boat
Pretty coloured houses

We are anchored at Fort McRee, easy to set the anchor and easy access to the beach for the dogs.

Maggie gets some off leash time.

This anchorage is near the Pensacola Naval Air Station and as such the Blue Angels practice overheard for most of the day. Getting a picture of a jet overhead is as Linda is fond of saying “like trying to take a picture of a moose from the highway, you have to have faith that that little dot is a moose”. In these short videos if you turn on the sound you can at least hear the jets.

Fly over
Smoke on, smoke off

We explored the local ruins of Fort McRee’s WWII emplacement and ended the day with a fire on the beach and a gathering of fellow loopers.

I am not going in there.
Loopers from Illinois and Quebec

It’s a bit cool but we were out of the wind so very nice to be on the beach.

  1. WOW that looks wonderful. It is cloudy and some light rain here for the last couple of days. But it has allowed me to get stuff put away and sorted and some food to eat. Almost ready for the sun and pool time. Enjoy and best wishes for a great holiday with your family and hope to see you in 2023.

  2. I visited Fort Pickens on a surface interval day during a dive trip to Pensacola in July – a very interesting place, held by the Union right through the Civil War. We were also treated to some low passes by the Blue Angels. Hope you enjoy your time there.

    1. Brenda, we are in the area for a week or so, boating and staying at anchorages. We will be leaving the boat here for a month while we come home for Christmas.

      1. I am taking the dogs to the groomers in Almonte on the 16th. We could meet for lunch while they are at the spa.

    2. It was lovely. The sand is very fine. Rocco walked into the water and got his lower half wet. He then insisted on walking in the dry sand and ended up looking like a sugar cookie. Maggie of course found something stinky to roll in.
