Through Fort Myers

We left Pelican Bay anchorage on a raising tide. The entrance is narrow and shallow. The recommended route is with 50 feet of the beach. We negotiated that at idle speed and began the cruise south to Fort Myers.

We debated whether to make an overnight stop at a marina there but eventually decided to give it a pass. Some marinas are open but have no power, nor water and are still charging four dollars a foot. It was 92 degrees and we figured if we were going to sweat all afternoon, better to do while moving. Plus, I was not looking forward to seeing the devastation.

The intra-coastal was a busy place even though it was Monday. The channel was narrow. The wakes of centre consoles were easy to negotiate. However, yachts traveling at speed required a turn into their wake. It kept whoever was helmsman engaged throughout their shift.
