A Relaxing Day

We debated leaving Loggerhead Marina at Vero Beach a day early. The strong winds predicted for three days petered out so we could have cruised comfortably to our next stop. However, there are some interesting things to do here so we opted to stay.

Vero Beach has free bus service everywhere in the county except the gated communities. So we took an Uber to McKee Botanical Gardens – one of the first “attractions” in Florida. Opening in the 1932 with a focus on orchids and water lilies. It was a major draw until the 60s but shutdown as interest in other types of attractions gained market share. It was shutdown for a number of years before being rescued from a developer in the early 90s and reopened.

We got our ten thousand steps in touring the garden and the installations of glass artist Jason Gamrath. The garden was originally designed by the Olmsted company and its structure and layout persist close to 100 years later.

The balance of the afternoon was spent beside the pool reading and watching some ribs cook.
