This is our last night in Georgia and it occurs to me that I haven’t said much about it or Florida.
First Florida, out last day there was in St Augustine. A real mix of tourist trap and “Old Florida”. We stayed at a marina called Rivers Edge and the contrast couldn’t be more apparent. The downtown of this burg, who’s claim to fame is that it is the oldest town in North America established by the Spanish, is a mix of Spanish revival and tourist extremism.

The original past has been replaced with t-shirt and fudge shops.

The authentic St. Augustine can actually be found nearer where we stayed, a poker game once a week where the dock master entertains some old salts who tell war tales during a 25 cent ante dealer’s choice game is nice dose of reality.

This was a nice spot away from the din that is the downtown.
We seemed to race through Georgia and its here near Savannah that we spend our last night. The Georgia we see is very much the low country, all live oak and Spanish moss.

We are in Thunderbolt Marina, in Thunderbolt Georgia. What can I say about the naming conventions in this country?

It was a great stop to look after the boat and get some chores done. Tomorrow we are headed to Hilton Head South Carolina. We have been there a number of time for vacation with the kids and we are looking forward to seeing some of our old haunts. Our stop there will be at the Harbour Town Yacht Basin. Chuck and Leigh on “Almost Home” have generously invited us to use their slip. It’s a well know spot overlooked by the 18th green of the RBC Heritage Classic. It should be fun.

So that’s it, Florida and Georgia are in the rear view mirror and the Carolinas await. We continue to head north.

Continued safe travels. Our last week to enjoy the sun, some fun and friendships. Weather at home will not be as nice as what you will experience along the eastern coast. But it’s time to head north…3 nights to get home. Haha. A little longer for you.⚓️⚓️⚓️
