Charlestown

This famous southern city is a must stop. Both for the Mega-Dock that is a quarter of a mile long and the city’s history. We spent a day wandering the downtown and evoking scenes from Gone with the Wind. Throughly enjoyable! I will let the photos speak for themselves

An aside:

The locale is also famous for the current in Elliot’s cut on the south side of the river. When we can through we were cruising at our normal 1,600 rpm. This usually result in 8 mph. Coming down Elliot’s cut we reach 12 mph!

Our buddy boat at the time travels at 6 mph. With the push from the current he had almost no steerage. Navigation rules on the inland rivers state that the boat coming downstream has the right of way for just this reason – they have less control. Poor Steve had to contend with a sport fisher approaching from the opposite direction at speed. This boat turned at the last minute sending a wake hard against Steve’s hull and spinning him 360 degrees.
