Day Two on the Erie

After the excitement of visitors, we settled into another day of cruising. The Erie Canal is an inland route from the Atlantic Ocean to Lake Erie at Buffalo. The eastern section climbs over the Appalachians so every lock lifts us.

We motored along still basking in the glow of visiting with Anne and Pat. One lock after another, we climbed the slope. I was zoning out in one of the locks when I heard someone shouting. I turned around and a gentleman on the lock wall asked if I was Linda.

I agreed I was and he looked at the boat name and said he liked our blog. Wow, that made my day even better. Thanks whoever you are, it was flattering.

On the section of the Erie there are not many places to stop and even fewer with services this early in the season. So boats end up congregating. We started out alone but caught up with others along the way.

Today’s flotilla included Breakaway and her crew Danielle and Alain. We last saw them in Nashville where we discovered they were from Gatineau and had slipped at the Ivy Lea Club near Gananoque at that the same time we did. Never meet them there but so glad we connected. Boating with them is easy, just in and out of the locks without issue.

We ended the day at St. Johnsville Municipal Marina. A nice stop with grass for Rocco and a laundry. When cruising, you are best advised to head for the laundry as soon as you land. Otherwise, you will be waiting for the sheets to dry long after dark.
