It Had To Happen

In contrast to the typical boating photos of glorious sunsets and mirror flat water, today is somewhat different. Seventeen loop boats hunkered down in Fulton Mississippi to wait out a storm.

We were treated to winds of 20-25 knots as we entered the marina. We docked with our bow into the wind after much difficulty and assistance from shore. Thank goodness for an oversized bow thruster that was able to move Moon Dance IV against the wind so I could get a fender between the boat and the t-head of the dock. Excellent work by John who kept his head and edged us in. No damage except for a scuff mark on the port side that wiped off and bruised egos as the whole marina watched.

The winds continued and even strengthened overnight. The marina is very exposed and there were whitecaps on the lake but with our bow into the wind we experienced a gentle rocking. Lots of noise with creeks, groans, wave slap and wind whistles but we managed to sleep.

The rain started around six and John got up to close the ports. Then we all rolled over and went back to sleep.

  1. Wow, quite the change from the day before!!! What do you when it’s raining and blowing – just stay moored where you are?

    1. Exactly! It is pleasure boating so we look for a marina and catch up on chores or visit local attractions. While we were here we went to visit Elvis’s birthplace.
