A Night at Anchor

After picking up a few provisions, we cruised from Columbus Mississippi to Pickensville Alabama with two other boats. Melinda and Duane on Surface Interval III are from Peoria, Illinois. Barbara and Scott on Little Bit More are from Colorado.

One lock and roughly 25 uneventful miles made an easy day. Not much to report about the scenery, except for this phone booth in the middle of nowhere. There was some speculation around its purpose. Most of which centred around Dr Who and Superman

We had to scramble when we arrived at our anchorage. We had 45 minutes to anchor (which took several attempts), launch the dinghy to take the dogs to shore and pop over to the neighbour’s for a drink before the sunset at 4:56.

Dinner was steak and a Caesar salad. We finished our wine on the bow, enjoying the almost full moon and evening cool.

I did feel somewhat guilty for having chosen this anchorage as the backup beepers from semi-trailers delivering grain were constant throughout the early evening. And, someone’s dog barked endlessly. Still it was a beautiful spot with stately pelicans coasting gracefully by and bald eagles bouncing on prey in the swallows beside us.

There was one other boat sharing the anchorage. Northern Exposure, a fellow Canadian, is in the picture below. If you look closely, the lunar eclipse is visible.

  1. Beautiful spot without all those distractions…moon here was spectacular. Imagine wherever you are, we are all seeing the same moon. Loved the photos and so glad you’ve met wonderful wanderers to travel with. Haven’t left yet for the south but hope it’s soon….
